Tuning into the season… This is my 3rd Autumn in Ireland. I’m fortunate to live in a completely rural setting where I’m surrounded by the seasonal change taking place in the wilderness around the cottage. Up here in Tountinna, the rolling hills turn from their summer greens to coppery goldens, browns and reds as the […]
Fascia is alive and requires certain conditions in order to be able to function optimally. What can you do to keep it supple and healthy?
Yin Yoga is a Functional practice in that it is not alignment-based. It focuses on the purpose of a pose in each individual body structure. Bringing practitioners’ awareness into what they’re feeling in their bodies – ie. a stretch or compression (healthy sensations), or sharp-shooting fiery pain (unhealthy sensations), practitioners are encouraged to experiment with their positions using their limbs, torso, head and gravity, to find the most functional variation of a posture for their bodies.
What is Restorative Yoga? “We have an ancient body subjected to a modern problem: living with chronic stress.” — Judith Hanson Lasater The practice is rooted in Iyengar Yoga, developed by B.K.S. Part of my yearly treat is packing myself off to experience one or two weeks of me-time. Since yoga has become integral to my daily life, finding a retreat that incorporates yoga is always my aim. The retreats I choose are typically tailored towards inner work with meditation, energy in the form of asana practice […]
Laparoscopic surgery is one of Western medicine’s marvels, as it enables surgical treatment to be carried out using one or more small incisions to the abdomen without the need to be cut open. As a result, recovery time is less and post-surgery pain isn’t as prolonged or intense. As with any surgery, laparoscopies still involve […]
With the best will in the world, we can still find it hard to focus on ourselves enough when we’re riding the rollercoaster of life’s challenges and responsibilities. Even as a yoga teacher, and working in a health and wellbeing organisation, both things that I love doing, they are still work. They still involve running […]
Mindfulness… Mindfulness has become the latest hot topic since it made it to the top of NHS recommendations for dealing with stress and anxiety. But what is mindfulness? The frenzied rush of day-to-day life, which involves countless to-do lists, multitasking, taking care of ‘real world’ responsibilities such as children, bills, and going to work, as well as newer […]
Boosting the Immune System… No matter how miserable a cold makes me feel, my body responds better to natural remedies. I bounce back with much more energy, glowing skin, and completely free of sinus pressure and congestion. Although pharmaceutical cold remedies can relieve symptoms, they don’t boost the body’s immune system like natural remedies do, […]
